⏱️ The 60-Second Rule: Why Response Time Decides Who Gets the Job
— Speed Wins The Job

It isn't your price or your reviews that decides who gets hired. It's how fast you answer.
There's one number that determines whether you win or lose an HVAC lead more than anything else.
Not your price. Not your Google rating. Not how long you've been in business.
How fast you respond.
The research on lead response is consistent across industries. Responding within the first minute dramatically increases your odds of qualifying that lead compared to waiting five minutes. Wait thirty minutes instead of five and your odds of even reaching them drop off a cliff.

In HVAC, thirty minutes is nothing. You're on a job. You're driving between calls. You're on a roof. A lead comes in from your website or a referral, you miss the call, and by the time you ring back forty-five minutes later the homeowner already booked with whoever picked up first.
What this looks like in practice
Homeowner's AC quits in July. They pull up Google and call the first three companies they find.
First one rings out. Second goes to voicemail. Third picks up in two seconds, asks a few questions, and books the service call for the next morning.
That third company didn't win because they were better. They won because they were there.
The homeowner isn't shopping on price at that moment. They're hot, they're annoyed, and they want somebody to fix it. The first credible voice that answers gets the job.
Why this hits HVAC harder than most trades
Two reasons.
Urgency. Nobody shops around for three days on a furnace that quit in January. The buying window is measured in minutes, not weeks.
Your job keeps you off the phone. A retail business has somebody standing at a counter. You're in a crawlspace. The structure of the work guarantees you'll miss calls during business hours — not just after them.
So the 60-second rule punishes HVAC owners twice: the window is shorter and you're less available to hit it.

What closing the gap actually looks like
Every call answered in about two seconds, regardless of what time it is or where you are.
The lead doesn't go cold. The appointment gets booked. The job goes on the calendar.
You don't find out about it forty-five minutes later. You get a notification that a job is already scheduled.
That's the whole mechanism. It isn't complicated and it isn't magic — it's just being there when the phone rings, every time, without you having to be the one holding it.Next week: why the hiring problem most HVAC owners think they have is actually a systems problem — and why fixing the system is faster and cheaper than finding, training, and keeping another person.
